In Motion Quartet, led by saxophonist Steve Treseler and trumpeter Kevin Woods, performs forward-thinking original jazz with a nod to the chord-less groups of Ornette Coleman, Dewey Redman, and Lee Konitz. This instrumentation allows the band the freedom to stretch harmonically and melodically, while maintaining an emphasis on rhythmic interaction and improvised counterpoint. Treseler and Woods seem to communicate telepathically, with a great sense of élan, curiosity, and vitality.

Steve Treseler is a Seattle-based saxophonist, teaching artist, and author who performs and leads creative music workshops across the U.S. DownBeat calls his music “beautifully crafted ensemble pieces—whether free, through-composed, or somewhere in between.” He and trumpeter Ingrid Jensen are co-leaders of the album Invisible Sounds: For Kenny Wheeler on Whirlwind Recordings, a project that was featured in the New York Times, DownBeat, and on NPR’s Jazz Night in America. Steve leads the In Motion Quartet and presents Radiant Fields for solo saxophone and electronics. Steve teaches saxophone and improvisation at Seattle Pacific University and is a Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist.

Trumpeter, composer, and educator Kevin Woods lives in Bellingham where he serves as director of jazz studies at Western Washington University. Kevin leads his own groups and has performed with Cuban saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera, trombonist Slide Hampton, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, trumpeters Bobby Shew, Brian Lynch, Claudio Roditi, guitarist Mike Stern, and many others. Woods has been featured in both DownBeat and Jazziz magazines, and his debut album Ballad of the West received high praise and airplay on jazz radio stations throughout North America and Europe. Kevin is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
