Seattle Yiddish Fest Presents: Rhapsody in Schmaltz

An evening of Klezmer, Yiddish songs and a bisl humor

[* Livestream Available, see below]

Final concert of Seattle Yiddish Fest with featured faculty from the weekend’s workshops, including:

  • Toronto-based NY Times best-selling author Michael Wex (author of Born to Kvetch, Just Say Nu, Rhapsody in Schmaltz etc.)
  • 4th generation Philadelphia Klezmer musician,  Trumpet legend Susan Hoffman-Watts
  • Latvian-American accordionist/multi-instrumentalist, arranger and electronic composer Ilya Shneyveys
  • Berlin-based, Seattle-raised S.Y.F. Director and renowned klezmer/old time fiddler Craig Judelman
  • Minneapolis’ culture worker, percussionist and enchanting songbird, Sarah Larson
  • Seattle’s own Yiddish folk-punk heroes Brivele Duo (Maia Brown and Stefanie Brendler)

and some very special surprises!

Join us for an evening of both kinds of songs – romantic and happy! Plus some hilarious stories from the travels and travails of Canada’s funniest Yid, Michael Wex; soulful klezmer tunes, Yiddish labor songs, a capella ballads and maybe even that Yiddish country hit you always wanted to hear but kinda hoped you never would.

About Seattle Yiddish Fest:

Seattle Yiddish Fest is a grassroots festival, centered around an annual weekend of workshops, jam sessions, concerts, community gatherings celebrating Yiddish (Ashkenazi Jewish) music, art and culture. This year our special Sunday afternoon ‘Just Say Nu’ Yiddish culture lecture series plus a unique visual art exhibition opening Thursday March 7 at Love City Love (1422 Seneca St.) featuring the work of artist Benny Ferdman.

More info and registration at www.seattleyiddishfest.com

Please note that tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door – but you can get a $10 discount on concert tickets if you purchase a weekend festival pass (we do offer tiered pricing for various financial abilities).

This evening will likely sell out so early reservations encouraged!

This year’s festival is made possible by a grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and with the support of our Fiscal Sponsor The Rhapsody Project, as well as co-sponsors: Eltana Bagels and Zylberschtein’s Deli.

Covid Precautions:

Please note that unlike most of the S.Y.F. events this concert is not mask-required but mask-encouraged. We will attempt to reserve a space in the section near the windows to the street for folks who want to remain masked and be near others who take similar precautions, please call the venue to reserve a table in that area if you are interested. We do note that this is a restaurant as well as bar and music venue so it sadly isn’t possible to have full masking. We do encourage all attendees to test before arriving and please don’t come if you have symptoms or test positive. In that situation we will gladly send you a livestream link!
