Critical Mass Big Band is a powerhouse in the Seattle contemporary jazz scene. As one of Seattle’s premier jazz ensembles, Critical Mass Big Band (featuring 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 5 trumpets, piano, guitar, bass, and drums) will celebrate summer with an evening of electrifying big band jazz at The Royal Room, which will offer delicious food and drinks for a perfect evening out. The night will feature works by renowned big band arrangers and composers such as Toshiko Akiyoshi, Gordon Goodwin, Keith McClelland, Andrew Neu, Bill Holman, Phil Woods, Annie Booth, and others. Under the musical direction of Ian Basques-Jellison, the eighteen-piece band includes standout musicians: Paul Gillespie, Lori Shepherd (subbing for Barbara Hubers-Drake), Al Lowe, Ian Basques-Jellison, and Sara Voskuhl on saxophones; Jim Elder, Dave Buck, Doug Lora, and Vinnie Christ on trombone; Jeff Leinbaugh, Marty Molloy, Mark Baker, Greg Klein, and Victor Ross on trumpet; Seth Ahnert on piano; Rob Parks on drums; Philip Demaree on bass; and Neal Adams on guitar.
