“One for Me”

To one side stands a corn field, to the other, a graveyard. On this country night two men desperate with hunger will make choices that will forever change their lives and redirect the course of an entire community for generations to come. A darkly comic adaptation of a Louisiana folktale, “One for Me” puts Divine forces into playful conversation over the fate and folly of humanity- and the proper way to divvy up a bounty.

Told through large scale shadow puppetry. Running time 17 minutes

Written, directed and performed by Pandora Gastelum and Jack Norcross

“The Story of a Mother”

Adapted from a fable by Hans Christian Andersen

A poor mother lives alone with her baby at the edge of a dense forest. One night, when her baby has taken ill, a stranger comes to call. The mother is so weary that she falls asleep as the visitor rocks the child. When she awakes she finds that her baby and the mysterious visitor have vanished. The visitor is none other than Death, traveling in disguise. The mother must embark on a journey across the vast wilderness to Death’s Garden at the edge of the world. Aided by The Long and Lonely Night, a talking Thorn Bush, a laughing Lake and Great Grandmother Spider, the mother will risk all that she is for the chance to win her baby back. A story of wonder, loss and redemption,“The Story of a Mother” is a meditation on the boundless power of love.

Told through large scale rod puppetry and marionette. Running time 20 minutes
