In conjunction with the South Hudson Music Project, Mizz Tish Productions presents a Labor Day weekend musical EXTRAVAGANZA! We’re having a Staycation Music Fest at the Royal Room in Columbia City with some INCREDIBLE local All Stars! Our Hip-Hop night will bring together a Ghetto Children reunion, with Vitamin D and B Self.

Ghetto Children was formed at Seattle’s James A. Garfield High School in 1991 by Derrick “Vitamin D” Brown and William “B-Self” Rider. Under Tribal Music Inc, Vitamin D served as the group’s Producer and Engineer, and their early material was recorded in his mother’s basement using a Dub machine. Ghetto Children was very influential in the Seattle HipHop scene, and had an alternative aesthetic in their lyrics, and rapped about topics other than those typical West Coast HipHop the time. B-Self stated in an old 1993 interview, “A lot of people in Hip Hop try to be hard. They come with a lot of anguish. And that may be real. But why bring those vibes to tape?” Many of their earlier shows in the beginning were performed at the Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center. If you don’t know about the historic Seattle Ghetto Children, you should definitely come out and join us on Friday, September 4th, for some smooth and jazzy Hip Hop.

Vitamin D  has been holding down the Northwest since early 1989. This established DJ, Producer & Emcee has opened up for nearly every significant artist that has come through Seattle. Vitamin has caught the ears of everyone from Hip Hop’s underground to the Quincy Jones of Hip Hop himself, Dr. Dre. Vitamin has produced for Kendrick Lamar,50 Cent, Jon Connor Wale to name a few. B Self, Brother Self1derful, is my Hip Hop nom de plume. I grew up listening primarily to black music, but I was exposed to whatever rock you might hear on MTV and VH1. In American pop culture there are artist that transcend genre or reach such fame as to make their names and music ubiquitous so there are music legends who’s names I know but not so much their music and a plethora I am unfamiliar with entirely, not to mention the music created before I was born or from other parts of the world, so this is a trip to explore that music.
