A long, long time ago there was…

Tikka-Jazz, Tikka-Soul, Tikka-Rock, Tikka-Roll

And now there is…

TIKKADOOM is a dynamic group that connects cultures and continents. This musical combo gets soulfully creative, with haunting vocals, swinging piano, stellar violin, orchestral upright bass and Indian tabla for percussion, blending the melodic, rhythmic and linguistic inspiration from India and beyond. Drawing on rich musical cultures from Hindustani classical, to New Orleans jazz, blues, and African influences they are cooking up a sound that is reinventing itself.

Mehnaz Hoosein is an award winning, Hindustani classically trained singer, performer and songwriter from Mumbai, India who thrives on musical collaborations with artists from around the world. She fuses genres ranging from Pop, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Blues, Bollywood, Hindustani Classical and World Music and vocalizes in multiple languages.

Jonny is a blues influenced classically trained pianist, composer, and arranger with a love of playing with others, regardless of genre. Raised in Southern Africa, he has a strong attraction to rhythmic grooves.

Bill Currie is a multi-instrumentalist who grew up studying accordion and viola while playing in bands and several orchestras, including three seasons with the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra. He’s played with a number of Seattle bands and has toured nationally. His favorite instrument is electric violin, and he enjoys playing a wide variety of musical styles and recording studio roles, including keyboardist, composer and engineer.

Larry Mahlis is a drummer/percussionist who is known as an original and versatile voice on drum set and percussion. He has performed numerous times in orchestral halls, clubs and concert venues and has appeared on a number of recordings in addition to film and TV soundtrack work.  Larry has performed in the US, Japan, Mexico and Canada.

“Trevor Pelletier has been a bass player on the Seattle jazz scene for the past decade.  He has played regularly with several small groups and big bands, hosted a long-running jam session, and been a capable on-call player around town.  Aside from playing, Trevor has recently been building electric basses.  Aside from music, Trevor teaches math at a local college.”

Nick Drummond opens the evening with a solo set featuring guitar and vocals.

Seattle singer-songwriter, Nick Drummond, is a chef and his music is a sumptuous feast. To hear Drummond’s songs is to sit down at a long dining room table, tuck in your napkin and begin to digest all that’s set before you. First the smells and sights then the sounds and conversations that swirl about. With the close and reopening of your eyes, your table is suddenly transported outdoors, Mad Hatter-style, with teacups and intoxicated cats draped over their delicate plates. The songs continue, lavishly.

Drummond is a mainstay in the Emerald City. Whether performing solo with nimble fingers and elastic vocals or backed by some of the region’s best players, from the renowned organist Joe Doria, celebrated guitarist Cole Schuster, or the pocket-perfect combination of bassist Mark Mattrey and drummer Ehssan Karimi, Drummond brings his sonic cornucopia to audiences in rooms of all sizes and states. He’s sold out nights at Jazz Alley and the Triple Door. He’s played the Showbox and Neumos, fingers dancing on acoustic guitars and electric banjos.

The Nick Drummond Band released its debut record, Eye of the Storm, in 2020 and it immediately earned acclaim from local press and radio, including regular rotation on KBCS 91.3 FM. The music has earned spins on KEXP and across the country’s college stations. Dubbed a composer of “brilliant, Dionysian music” by public radio’s Garrison Keillor, Drummond sings nourishing tunes perfect for banquets, caloric party songs and even the delightful lullaby by which to blow out the candle and prepare again for tomorrow’s indulgences.
